Codefree is a service business — we build software for clients, manage retainers, ship on deadlines, and answer to people who pay us by the hour. By 2024 we had grown past what duct-taped tools could hold. So we built our own.
The tools we tried first were good in pieces — a request tool here, a time tracker there, a billing system over there, dashboards exported by hand to spreadsheets every Monday. Each tool was beloved by its category. None of them spoke to each other. The fastest way to know how our business was doing was to ask three different humans on three different Slack channels.
In late 2024 we started building Klientele as an internal project. The brief was simple: every part of the post-sale lives in one operating layer. Intake, execution, delivery, visibility, configuration. Each pillar earns its place. Anything that doesn't, gets cut.
We ran our entire agency on it for over a year before letting anyone else in. We tracked our utilisation against ourselves. We've billed our clients through it. We've shipped releases for our customers via it. We've been the first user, the first abuser, and the first beneficiary.
In 2026, we opened it to a small group of outside service businesses across legal, healthcare, creative agencies, and SaaS support. This page is where we tell that story, honestly.
